Yuva Jyothi

Yuvajyothi Hostel for the street children and semi- orphaned children started in the year 2003. Initially children from the railway platforms were picked up and were given shelter at a small place at Mankapur. Over the years as the number of children increased the home was shifted to St. Martin Nagar. Yuvajyothi accommodates the children aged between 10-18 years and the present capacity is 35.

WHAT YUVAJYOTHI PROVIDES

EDUCATION
Children routinely attended ten different schools and colleges. The children’s progress was monitored on a regular basis by their class teachers. Children were encouraged to participate in a variety of extracurricular activities arranged by their schools. All the children attend regular school and perform well in their respective classes within their abilities.

NUTRITION
Under the supervision of a social worker, children were given nutritional food. As a result, it serves an important function in promoting the boys’ physical growth and development. Proper diet promotes brain development and improves cognitive processes, allowing children to process information efficiently and make sound judgments.

COUNSELLING
All of the children at Yuvajyothi participated in individual and group counselling sessions for children, which were done on a regular basis using both direct and indirect counselling methods by a psychologist assisted by social workers. Children who demonstrated symptoms of behavioural problems, concentration problems, attention problems, low self-esteem, learning disabilities, aggression issues, sluggish learning challenges, depression, family issues, and post-traumatic stress, receive additional care.

 

DEVELOPMENTAL ACTIVITIES

SPORTS AND GAMES
Children are guided and encouraged to participate in a variety of games and sporting activities. Everyday children mostly participate in team games such as football, which increases cohesiveness and friendship among them.

SPOKEN ENGLISH CLASSES
During the summer vacation, children attend the Basic English classes. The classes are children-friendly, with the children actively participating in it.

RECREATION
Children take part in a variety of organized recreational activities, including singing, group building games, carom, chess, and ludo. Children are given access to television so they could watch movies and sports matches.

MUSIC AND DANCE CLASSES
In the months of May and June, dance classes are conducted for the children. Children are taught music and songs on Sundays and Thursday by the students of Pilar Niketan and St. Charles student.

HEALTH CARE FACILITIES
Dr. Rajkumar Rughwani, Dr. Punchi, Dr. Borkar, and other doctors provide regular medical help to the children. All of these hospitals are located near Yuvajyothi residence. The doctor provided the utmost attention and preference to the Yuvajyothi children.

BASIC COMPUTER LITERACY
The activity helps the children develop cognitive and creative skills. The students are taught how to use Gmail, basic internet browsing, and Microsoft tools like Word, Excel, etc.

PARTICIPATION IN CULTURAL EVENTS
The children are encouraged and prepared to perform Bollywood dance routines. Children take part in cultural activities on numerous occasions such as Foundation Day, Diwali, Christmas Day and Balmela.

CELEBRATION OF SOCIAL AND NATIONAL DAYS
Independence Day, Diwali, Christmas, Republic Day, Holi, Raksha Bandhan, Shivaji Jayanthi, Ambedkar Jayanthi, Savitribai Phule Jayanthi and Constitution Day are celebrated at Yuvajyothi.

AFTER CARE
The children those who complete studies at Yuvajyothi, the NGO offers them the support to complete their further studies. Children often prefer to study the higher education outside Nagpur or get into the technical courses. All throughout their education and until they get a job we monitor them.

We are happy that so far 800 children have passed through the doors of Yuvajyothi and realised their dreams.
